North American P-51 Mustang

The North Amercian P-51 Mustang was without a doubt was one of the best  air superority fighters of the Second World War. This aircraft has been modelled in scale by a number of companies over the years however amongst the modelling community its generally recognized that the Tamiya P-51B and P-51D including the Malcom Hood Version are the best P-51's in 1/48 scale. For the larger 1/32 Scale Tamiya again with its excellent P-51D is the best kit out in the market today.

My go to reference is the mushroom yellow series on the P-51D. It has some very good drawings and colour photos of the most accurately reproduced P-51D in existence, "Happy Jacks Go Buggy".  For sure a great modelling reference for colour and design.

A real classic is this book from Squadron Signal Publications. I have had this book for going on 33 years and bought it way back in highschool. I use it for its pictures but really nothing else as the latest books such as the one mentioned above have all the reference data one needs to model a P-51. Still a sentimental favourite of mine though.
