As some of you may know Tamiya's iconic 1:48 scale F4U Corsair is arguably the best Corsair made in this scale today. The fit and finish is excellent; the instructions clear and understandable. In fact this kit has formed the basis for their 1/32 scale F4U-1A Corsair which is considered the best  -1A Corsair in 1/32 scale as well.

For my first 1/48 scale aircraft build I wanted to build something that was relatively easy to put together. WIth this thought in mind I cast about on various modelling forums and the consensus was from experienced aircraft modelers that the Tamiya Corsair would be an excellent choice. So, after acquiing the kit I was just about all set. The next thing was what a/c to build. I wanted to build a VF-17 Jolly Rogers Corsair but after seeing many models of the squadron's leading ace Ira Kepford I felt that it would be neat to do a lessser known Ace from the group. Subsequently, I found some decals for VF-17's  7 kill ace Lt. Danny Cunningham. I then decided I would do this aircraft.

For this build I used Tamiya acrylics for the paint work and sky models decals for the VF-17 decals. I used the Tamiya kit decals for the National Insignia. Add-ons consisted of Vector Cowl and cowlingflaps and true details horizontal and vertical stabs and wheels.

I don't personally like the job I did on the antenna wiring. It's too thick. I just need to re-do  it with some stretched sprue or some EZ-line.
